Who doesn't dream of young-looking glowing skin and getting rid of acne? I use to suffer from eczema, acne, and other unpleasant skin conditions all my life but thanks to proper nutrition I was able to clear my skin and feel beautiful again. Now I am sharing some of my tips with you, so check it out!

1. Collagen
What is collagen and why it is so important for beautiful not only the skin but also nails and hair? Collagen is the protein found in our skin, bones, muscles, blood vessels, digestive system, and tendons. It helps to keep our body together, give skin elasticity and strength, and replace dead cells.
Our body can produce a small amount of collagen itself, however, a bad diet, pollution from the air, sun exposure, alcohol and cigarettes destroy the collagen cells, and especially as we are ageing the production of collagen lower and therefore the consumption of bone broth and/or supplementation is necessary to prevent wrinkles and keep the body anchor strong.
There are several types of collagen and some of them can be found in beef, chicken, fish, and eggs.
I have started taking the collagen supplement myself just recently and I swear most of my wrinkles disappear from one day to another!
2. Water
Drinking an adequate amount of water is important for overall health, but as our skin is made out of the cells and the cells are made out of the water, the lack of hydration can cause the skin to dry and wrinkle. Water helps also our body to get rid of the toxins, which as a result can lead to a decrease of acne and glowing skin.
It is important to keep the moisture in our skin and therefore use of a good quality face and body cream is very important. Recommended is to apply body milk (I use coconut oil) after the shower while your skin is still wet to keep the water in. Trust me I have got it all tested! :)
3. Healthy fats
Omega 3 and Omega 6 are essential fatty acids that form the skin cells and therefore they are important for healthy and glowing skin. If your diet is not rich enough for these fatty acids your skin may be dry and inflamed. Omega 3 & 6 can be found for example in salmon, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin, and flax seeds.
There are other fatty acids important for beautiful skin found in nuts, seeds, avocado, olive & coconut oil and that is why these should definitely be included in your diet too, especially if you seek healthy, young-looking skin.
Remember that our bodies do not produce essential fatty acids on their own, so the only way to get more into the body is by eating them!
4. Antioxidants
Antioxidants protect skin by limiting the production of free radicals, which can damage skin cells and they are seriously incredible for your overall health too. Anyone who spends time outdoors will benefit from antioxidants as we are exposed to pollution and smoke on a daily basis, the consumption of antioxidants will help fight the effects of these in our body.
The most common foods packed with antioxidants are blueberries, goji berries, dark chocolate, pecans, cranberries, dark green veggies, oatmeal, green tea and many others, so just pick your favourite and add them to your grocery list.
Your body will thank you later!
5. NO SUGAR
Refined sugar is a simple carbohydrate that raises your insulin and causes inflammation in your body. It breaks down collagen and elastin in your skin resulting in wrinkles but also acne. Avoid foods that are packed with simple carbs and sugars like white bread and pasta, packed snacks and candy, sugary drinks, fried food, ice cream, dressings, pizza, and sugar.
Replace them with complex carbohydrates, like brown rice, vegetables, and fruits which are broken down into glucose at a slower rate (and therefore don’t cause the fast insulin raise).
Try to stick with natural sweeteners like Stevia, Agave syrup, or Honey.
